My Fitness Journey

Here is the story of my journey.

Please understand that I am not looking for praise or criticism here.  I simply want to share how I got to where I am today and be completely honest.  Life can sometimes get in the way of your goals and that's okay.  As you will be able to see, it did for me, but I know what I need to do and I'm going to do it.

In early 2009, I realized that I was gaining way too much weight and was not nearly as active as I needed to be.  No, I didn't sit in front of the television all day eating pizza and drinking beer, but I definitely wasn't going to the gym or doing much of anything outside except maybe taking my dogs for a walk.  So the hubby and I decided to join a gym to get in shape.

In most gyms, you can't just sign up without an orientation or some type of introduction by the gym staff (it's typically a marketing ploy for other services).  In our case, we signed up for a membership that included 2 "free" [read: higher monthly membership fee] personal training sessions per month so they required that on our first visit, we meet with a trainer to discuss our goals.  Luckily for us, we met with a pretty awesome guy who filled us in on a little thing called Body for Life.  He directed us to the website and told us that the plan was free, but we could buy the book if we wanted to.  We bought the book, checked the website and began the next day.

These two ladies were my inspiration...

After 12 weeks and a lot of reading and dedication, this was my before and after...

Fast forward another year in the gym, this was the progression (excuse the poor quality)...

June 2010 is when I started to see some noticeable change in my upper body...

Then I slacked off a bit after moving to VA...

You can see the weight gain in my face.

I pretty much went right back to where I was in 2009 so in the Spring of 2011, I knew that I needed to get my butt back in the gym and hired a personal trainer to whip me into shape.  It was the best decision I ever made.

Here is the before...

And the after...

And in October/November of 2011, I finally felt like I looked better than I ever have...

Not long after that last photo was taken, I found out that I was pregnant.  Unfortunately, it was an ectopic pregnancy for which I was treated and told I could resume my normal activities shortly thereafter.  Of course, it's never that easy and after a series of unfortunate events, which included a very scary trip to the ER, I was cleared to get back into the gym in the Spring 2012, but can honestly say, it didn't happen.  I went every so often, but really lacked the motivation to go.  I quickly lost all of those gains that I had made and gained about 15lbs.

I was no longer at a healthy weight and I got back in the saddle again.  2013 has started off right and I'm excited to be able to show you another before and after soon.
